Techni-Cooler Intercooler System
The stock system limits your power by letting the boosted air lose pressure between the turbo and the cylinder head. Banks Techni-Cooler with its large 3” boost tubes and superior end tank design removes pressure-robbing restrictions and packs more cool air into the engine. Denser and more oxygen-rich, cool air produces the greatest combustion and the most power while helping minimize exhaust gas temperature. When designing the Techni-Cooler charge-air cooler (CAC) systems for Duramax, Power Stroke and Cummins vehicles, Banks engineers kept in mind a basic rule of physics: anything that restricts airflow will reduce pressure, density and power. And they found plenty in the stock setup that hampers airflow. Stock CACs have narrow end-tanks and insufficient core area and thickness; the boost tubes are small with sharp bends, crimps and flattened areas that severely reduce airflow and pressure; and in some applications, the puny intake robs more boost from the air before it enters the cylinders. Banks dramatically increases the flow volume with a superior CAC system designed and engineered from the inside out to minimize pressure drop from the boosted air and significantly cool the air for greater density, oxygen content and power.
The core area of Banks Techni-Cooler is up to 25% larger than stock for tremendous cooling capacity. Bigger, high-efficiency, all-aluminum (not plastic!) end tanks optimize airflow and will never melt or burst under extreme boosting conditions. Air density is increased by up to 10%, which improves power output and keeps EGTs lower. Banks boost tubes are large and streamlined with no kinks or smashed areas; mandrel-bending keeps the air flowing through with a minimum of pressure loss. Banks High-Ram intake with its impressive size and less restrictive shape does a far better job than the pipsqueak stock intake of flowing cool, dense air into the engine.
The bottom line? Cooler, denser, oxygen-rich air greatly increases the power potential of every liter of air the engine pumps.
