By precisely matching output to the engine’s torque curve, Banks Billet Torque Converter empowers Ford diesel pickups with crisp acceleration, more low-end towing grunt, better mileage and longer transmission life.

FORGED-BILLET FRONT COVER
The front cover is the mechanical link between the torque converter and the engine, so strength is vital. The stock converters use a stamped-steel front cover that can bend or deform under heavy loads. Some of our competitors weld a billet disc to the sidewall, machine the assembly, and call it a billet cover. Banks uses a single-piece steel billet that is forged for maximum strength and CNC-machined to exacting tolerances.

LOWER STALL SPEED
Diesel engines develop peak torque at a relatively low RPM, yet the stock torque converters used with Ford diesel engines have a stall speed of 2000 to 2500 rpm—well above the torque peak. The Banks Billet Torque Converter lowers the stall speed, ensuring that the engine's maximum power can be delivered to the rear wheels. The engine builds boost faster, improving throttle response, acceleration and low-end towing muscle.

IMPROVED LOCKUP CLUTCH SURFACE
When towing or hauling a heavy load, the stock torque converter can slip while in lockup mode, which causes excessive lockup clutch wear and transmission heat. Some aftermarket valve bodies overcome this problem by boosting transmission line pressure past the limit of the seals, which can cause leaks. The Banks Billet Torque Converter's lockup surface is lined with a special carbon-ceramic material that withstands heat and resists slippage better than the stock cellulose-based paper material.

IMPROVED EFFICIENCY
Just as engine efficiency can be optimized by improving airflow, torque converters benefit from improved oil flow. The custom stator and furnace-brazed impeller and turbine blades are designed to speed and smooth the flow of oil through the converter. By streamlining oil flow and reducing friction, energy that would normally be wasted as heat is converted to motion, so the converter runs cooler and transfers more power.

BALANCED AND BLUEPRINTED
Each component is machined to exact specifications and precision-balanced using state-of-the-art CNC machining equipment. Inferior plastic washers are replaced with Torrington bearings that tighten clearances, reduce friction and increase the converter's efficiency. The completed assembly is rechecked for balance and concentricity.

The Banks Billet Torque Converter is 100% compatible with the Banks TransCommand and SmartLock transmission modules, and will vastly improve the performance from Banks power and braking systems. The Banks Billet Torque Converter is available for purchase and installation at Banks dealers or directly from Gale Banks Engineering.
